Alitalia today announced four additional weekly flights on the popular Rome-Mexico City route, with a new daily service starting on 3 July, 2017. Daily flights will continue throughout the summer, more than doubling the connectivity and the number of seats available between the two countries. A total of 3900 seats per week are now available for purchase during the summer.
“Over 40,000 people have flown between Italy and Mexico since Alitalia commenced flights to Mexico in June 2016, demonstrating the strong demand for direct services between the two countries," said the Chief Executive Officer of Alitalia, Cramer Ball. "Now, thanks to our increased offering on this route, Alitalia is set to strengthen its position as the leading air carrier between Italy and Latin America. Our new flights will further improve economic and cultural ties, as well as tourism flows between Italy and Mexico. I would also like to thank the Mexican authorities for their decisive institutional support, which has actively contributed to enable this important service increase for Alitalia, in recognition of the strong partnership between Italy and Mexico.”
The outbound flight from Rome Fiumicino to Mexico City departs at 10.40am and arrives at 5pm local time (on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday departure is at 10.25am, landing at 4.45pm local time). The return flight from Mexico City departs at 11.30pm (local time) and arrives in Rome at 6.35pm the following day. The times are scheduled to allow Alitalia passengers from 17 Italian and 29 foreign airports to travel to Mexico by taking advantage of convenient connections at Rome Fiumicino.
Travellers can also connect from Mexico City to many popular cities across Mexico – such as Cancun, Merida, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Villahermosa, Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua – thanks to the commercial agreement with Interjet, the second Mexican airline which operates in the same terminal as Alitalia at the Benito Juárez International airport in Mexico City.
Alitalia’s Mexico City service is operated using a 293-seat Boeing B777 aircraft, the flagship of the Alitalia fleet, arranged in a three-class configuration: business, premium economy and economy. On board, passengers can enjoy fully-refurbished cabin interiors and a new connectivity service allowing them to make phone calls, send emails and use the Internet. This service is available on several of the aircraft in the airline’s Boeing B777 fleet.
Thanks to the increased frequency on this route, Alitalia is set to strengthen its presence in the Latin American market. From summer, the Italian airline will operate 31 weekly frequencies to and from six destinations: Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo (seven weekly services for each destination), Santiago (five weekly services), Rio de Janeiro (three weekly services) and Havana (two weekly services). Together with 63 weekly flights to and from six destinations in North America, Alitalia will connect Italy to a total of 12 destinations in the Americas with 94 services a week.
Tickets can be bought online at alitalia.com, by calling the Alitalia Customer Center on 89.20.10 (from Italy) or +39.06.65649 (from abroad), at travel agencies and at airport ticket offices. Members of Alitalia's MilleMiglia loyalty programme can earn and redeem miles on all services operated by Alitalia.
Alitalia - Società Aerea Italiana is Italy’s largest airline and commenced operations on January 1, 2015 after acquiring the operational activities of Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana, now named CAI. CAI has a 51% controlling stake in Alitalia and the remaining 49% of shares are owned by Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (Airline of the Year 2016 by the prestigious US-based aviation industry publication Air Transport World). As part of its 2016/2017 winter schedule, Alitalia flies to 80 destinations, including 26 Italian and 54 international destinations, with 3,600 weekly flights and 106 routes. Alitalia boasts one of the most modern and efficient fleets in the world. It is a member of the SkyTeam alliance and is part of the Transatlantic Joint Venture alongside Air France-KLM and Delta Air Lines. Alitalia also collaborates with the other Etihad Airways Partners - airberlin, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, Etihad Airways, Etihad Regional operated by Darwin Airline, Jet Airways and NIKI – in order to offer customers more choice through improved networks and schedules and enhanced frequent flyer benefits.
