Alitalia will launch non-stop flights between Rome and Mexico City on June 16, 2016 to increase its international network. "The new Alitalia service will help commerce and also develop tourism between Italy and Mexico”, commented Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Alitalia’s Chairman. “This new flight will add to a new service in May to Santiago and complement our existing routes to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. We aim to become the leading air carrier on routes to Latin America, an important area for Italy and one where we see growth and opportunity both in business and in leisure”.
Mexican Secretary of Communications and Transportation, Gerardo Ruíz Esparza, hailed the launch of Alitalia’s new service: “The Mexican Government, through the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation, believes that the successful conclusion of negotiations between the Mexican and Italian aeronautical authorities for the launch of new Mexico City-Rome direct service is part of President of Mexico Peña Nieto’s strategy to consider as a top priority the consolidation of economic, touristic and cultural ties between the two countries”.
A taste of the new flight is scheduled on 12 February when Alitalia will operate a special flight to Mexico City for Pope Francis to one of the biggest Catholic countries in the world.

Flights to Mexico City will be operated three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
The Alitalia flight for Mexico City will take off at 10.25 am from Rome Fiumicino and land in Mexico City at 4.45 pm (local time). Flights from Mexico City will depart at 11.30 pm (local time) to arrive at Rome airport at 6.35 pm on the following day. The flight schedule will allow Alitalia customers travelling to Mexico from 50 Italian, European, Middle East and North African cities through connections at Alitalia's Rome Fiumicino hub.
The service will be operated using a 293-seat Boeing 777 aircraft, the flagship of the Alitalia fleet, arranged in three class service: business, premium economy and economy. Passenger will enjoy cabin interiors fully refurbished and new connectivity service for phone calls, Internet and email.
The launch of new service is the result of great teamwork between Mexican and Italian authorities, in particular the Mexican Secretary of Transportation Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, the Italian Foreign Ministry and embassies of the two countries in Rome and in Mexico City.
Tickets for the new Alitalia flights are available for purchase from alitalia.com, by calling the Alitalia Customer Centre at +39 06.65649 from outside Italy, from travel agencies and at airport ticket sales desks. Alitalia’s MilleMiglia frequent flyer members can spend and redeem miles on the new flight and if they buy a ticket to Mexico City for flying by August 16 they will get an extra bonus of up to 5,000 miles.
